Japan 2016 week 1

I got to spend 4 weeks in Japan this summer. In the upcoming weeks I will show you some of the things I have done. I will start with my first week.

Just a bit of background information. I went with the Lions club summer exchange. That means that I stayed with hostfamilies and participated in a camp. So most of the activities I have done might not be the usual tourist attractions.

Day 1 & 2  July 12th & 13th
This was spend travaling to Japan. I got sick in the morning so I did not feel like doing much for the rest of the day. I flew with Finnair to Nagoya where I was picked up by lions members and my host mother. I had to get used to the heat since it is not that hot where I live. So after 5 minuts outside I was already soked in sweat since I was still wearing my airplane outfir which consisted of a sweater and multiple other layers.

we had luch at Denny's and I had some obligations with the lions. At the end of the day i visited my old high school in Japan and met up with some of my old teachers and friends.

Day 3 July 14th

I once again had some lions meetings to attend. Let me say this was not what I had imagined as a lions meeting. But since it is a private affair I won't go into detail about it. I met the mayor of the town I was staying in for some reasin that is still not clear to me. I finished the day by going to what I assume was heaven. A huge store called don qiotte which sells all the Japanese make up you can imagine. They even had a pet section.

Day 4 July 15th

I went to a town called Nagahama. It is a more traditional town. Sadly it was a rainy day so the pictures look a bit dull but I had so much fun.

I even blew my own glass. I also visited a museum about a local festival.

It made me want to go to that festival. We ended the visit by going to a temple.

Day 5 July 16th
I visited the Pearl Island and a special temple near there. I also visited a local aquarium where I saw shows with animals. I ended the day with eating one of my favorite Japanese dishes: okonomiyaki.

Day 6 July 17th
The highlight of this day was something I never thought I would do. I had a rare opportunity to eat with Sumo wrestlers. That means that the sumo's cook what they normaly cook and that I got to eat that.

Whatever I did not finish eating they would eat. I also had the opportunity to talk with some of them.

Day 7 July 18th
This was the day I started my camp. Since we spend the entire day travaling I did not take any pictures.

This was my first week in Japan this summer. I hope you enjoyed reading it and you maybe now want to visit Japan.

See you next time,
Leonie
